What is this service's Terms of Use?

I am the founding admin of a wiki on Miraheze, and am looking for an alternate wiki host. However, I am not willing to let the wiki host do simply anything with our intellectual property.

As I post this, your Terms of Use -- the contract between WikiTide and its customers -- read, in total, "Coming soon... "

Please let me know when you have actual Terms of Use and are thus ready to accept customers.

--Robkelk (talk) 00:57, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

This is a detail that should have been worked out prior to a public presence, but, c'est la vie. It will likely be modified further but this is as close to what's available right now. I've taken the liberty to make the original Terms of Use more usable but this is not backed by official statements or professional review, and WikiTide functionaries will need to take point sooner than later. --Raidarr (talk) 09:34, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
The Terms of Use page is now in place, effective June 20, 2023 (today). LuciferianThomas 09:10, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Footer button

I made a potential footer button for all of WikiTide. I will likely make one for WikiForge as well. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 22:08, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Appreciate it, though WikiForge doesn't need one, I don't think we'll use one there. Universal Omega (talk) 23:16, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Is there an entry point for importing ManageWiki Settings?

I mean, the ManageWiki setup that I exported in a Wiki in Miraheze, I want to use in a Wiki with the same name that I created here, but I don't know how to import it, is there any entry or method? --Rosalina129 (talk) 04:40, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

We can import it for you. Please make a request at Agent Isai (talk) 05:35, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

About MediaWiki Internal Error

The accident Wiki: unrealneowikitide

After processing Import ManageWiki and file dump for unrealneowikitide request, I will try to access the Wiki, Browser prompt:

MediaWiki internal error.
Original exception: [9f1edb3680bfb3d339b5aa0c] 2023-06-20 17:06:47: Fatal exception of type "Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError"
Exception caught inside exception handler.
Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information.

Can someone who is senior tell me why this is happening? I can't even access my own Wiki because of this error (with one exception, Only after log out into Main Page(In Chinese), other places are inaccessible, even can't login or create accounts)

If this issue needs a request, can you remind me for a moment? Thank you very much.

Rosalina129 (talk) 17:14, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

This is fixed and was due to Translate being enabled when ManageWiki backups were restored but SQL was bypassed. Agent Isai (talk) 20:12, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Will there be a gazetteer like on miraheze? Thank you 😊. Nuze (talk) 05:55, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

The Miraheze Gazetteer was a troubled project that did not accurately represent the farm's offerings and fell constantly out of date. To be honest it may be best to leave it behind and strongly encourage the far more versatile Special:WikiDiscover instead. But ideas to overcome some of the Gazetteer's constant issues could help. I believe these issues mainly came down to being tedious to update and unintuitive organization. Note that wiki operators can (and should!) offer descriptions of their wiki content in the way the Gazetteer did through their local Special:ManageWiki page. --Raidarr (talk) 11:19, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Wiki farm comparison

Is anyone making an essay about the comparison showing every aspect differently between WikiTide (note that this site is a part of WikiForge), Miraheze, and FANDOM? - The Harvett Vault | he/him | user | talk - 10:31, 22 June 2023 (UTC); edited: 11:11, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

I believe such a comparison would be premature until this farm is more off the ground and Miraheze has a more clear long term idea of its future. But if someone wants to start a draft essay it wouldn't hurt. --Raidarr (talk) 11:16, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
That explains a lot; one more thing is the content policy has additional restrictions, unlike Miraheze. - The Harvett Vault | he/him | user | talk - 00:59, 23 June 2023 (UTC); edited: 01:01, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

bnwv is reverted to default settings without specifying a reason

I just completed the initial steps of this wiki. But the wiki's enabled extension is disabled without specifying any reason. I am not even able to reactivate them. Besides, the language has also changed to English; I couldn't find anything in the wiki's logs for this action, and I saw an action by Agent Isai in the global log, but didn't understand anything.

Can I know about the matter?

I would like to mention @Universal Omega & @Agent Isai with respect. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 16:22, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Can't set my preferences in my Wiki

Hi, I try to update my preferences in the wiki, but it gave me an error and couldn't save the preferences. Notice I have posted here also.

A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.

About Translation and fork

Perhaps this is the result of using the default Miraheze extensions, but many translations on my site appear that related to Miraheze. Like written in Bengali, donate to Mirahaze and on default Main Page, there is a contact link of mirahaze's discord/twitter etc. I think we should start our own fork and translation.খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 05:08, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Where to ask for tech support on WikiTide?

This is not clearly indicated on Meta's Main page - If there's something not functioning as expected on my wiki, where do I ask for it to be fixed, please? Rob Kam (talk) 16:37, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

It's explained at Help center, but that's not linked from Main page either. Rob Kam (talk) 18:44, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Hello, apologies, we will improve documentation accessible at some point. Just taking time. Universal Omega (talk) 00:25, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Wikilinks with &, ? and % in them don't work on WikiTide.

On WikiTide, in the source editor, wikilinks with the characters &, ? and % in them don't go to pages with those names, e.g.

  • Itchy & Scratchy and Itchy ? Scratchy - both go to a page Itchy here. On Fandom, Wikipedia and Miraheze these go to page Itchy & Scratchy or Itchy ? Scratchy.
  • Itchy % Scratchy - goes to 400 Bad Request here and on Fandom. On Wikipedia and Miraheze these go to page Itchy % Scratchy.

On Wikipedia, Fandom and Miraheze [[Itchy & Scratchy]] gets converted in the browser address bar to Itchy_%26_Scratchy, here on Meta it's Itchy_?_Scratchy. --Rob Kam (talk) 17:14, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

This should now be fixed. Apologies for the inconvenience. Universal Omega (talk) 20:16, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

Are Recent changes down right now?

I've noticed that RecentChanges doesn't seem to be working for me on the Pocket Dragons wiki or on any wiki for that matter - I know WikiTide is still new, so is it something that's already been reported and/or worked on? Or is there a setting I've made that's stopping me from seeing them? Sora (talk) 17:56, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

How is Wikitide different from Miraheze?

Hello, Wikitide.

I am here because I was wondering what the differences between Wikitide and Miraheze are. Person16384 (talk) 03:29, 31 July 2023‎ (UTC)

Miraheze is funded only by donations. WikiTide is funded by donations and by WikiForge.
Special:Interwiki at Miraheze is view only, on WikiTide it's view and edit
It's still early days but uptime and response, compared with Checkly --Rob Kam (talk) 13:44, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
In my experience, at this time WikiTide is less responsive when editing. --Rob Kam (talk) 13:30, 25 August 2023 (UTC)

Internal Error for JSON Pages

When I try to access a page whose text format is of type JSON (or any pages named xxx.json), the following error pops up:

Deleting username and becoming an admin of a new wiki

Hello, I created an account with a misspelled username, how can I delete that user? With that bad user I requested a wiki. I want to make sure my new user account is a administrator of that new wiki once approved. How can I become a administrator of a new wiki. Later I would like multiple contributors to have access to this new WIKI. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by NoLongerOnTheBall (talkcontribs)

Thank you for reaching out, this situation does not require creating a separate user account, you can solve this problem by logging in as the misspelled user account and requesting a global rename at Special:GlobalRenameRequest --NotAracham (talk) 04:06, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
EDIT: I see you already created an account with your preferred username. As your original request was declined for needing more details to be approvable, please instead file an updated request with the new account. --NotAracham (talk) 04:10, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

User rights - limited to specific users?

Hello can a wiki be protected so that guests and users do not have permission to edit pages -- the only way to edit a page is for an Administrator or bureaucrat to specifically add a user to the administrators or bureaucrats list. this will be to prevent anyone from Editing or deleting without being 1st an approved content contributor. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by NoLongerOnTheBall (talkcontribs)

If you're interested in limiting editing only to admins/bureaucrats, you'll need to first navigate to the Special:ManageWiki/permissions page on your wiki. Select the Bureaucrats and Administrators roles, adding the edit permission currently found under unassigned permissions to each. Once that's done, update the (everyone) and Users roles, removing the edit permission from assigned permissions. --NotAracham (talk) 15:27, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
Okay, I have that change made. Thank you.
How can I get new users on my wiki now?
new users are only seeing a Login link. No Sign-up link.
How can a visitor setup their own new user? (and then later I can add them to the administrators group so they can Edit.)
thank you NoLongerOnTheBall (talk) 21:03, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
nevermind - I think I figured it out! NoLongerOnTheBall (talk) 21:28, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Caption the same width as the image

Just putting this out there if anyone knows of a way to line up the caption, as seen on this page (third image down), so that it is the same width as the image itself. I am currently using a "res-img" class to make the image resizeable to the screen up to a maximum of 800px wide. I also have "res-img" class for 1000px and 1200px for landscape images for wider screens. As you can see the caption is as wide as the main body of text. I would like to avoid this if at all possible. I have tried different ways to make it "fit" but it usually ends up in breaking the class and the image just floats left. Any input welcome, thanks. Borderman (talk) 16:12, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Resolved via Discord, the solution was to update CSS to update class to impact both img and span tags when used.
--NotAracham (talk) 17:25, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
@NotAracham Many thanks for looking into this and providing me with a solution. I have just amended the css file and checked the example in question and it works perfectly. Much appreciated. Borderman (talk) 18:10, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

General Update (Discord cross-post)

(Cross-posting from Discord, original announcement sent 20 Sept 2023. Better/permanent home for cross-posting TBD)

Hi all, Board Secretary NotAracham here to provide a general update on WikiForge/WikiTide operations. We're now a bit over 3 months out from the launch of WikiTide (and 2 months since official incorporation of both services!) While it's been an exciting launch so far, the trust and support of our community is deeply appreciated and continues to motivate us to always do more, better.

Regarding recent DDoS attempts and 50X service degradations, while we were unable to determine a specific motive or targeted wiki for the attack, it was a happy coincidence of timing that Agent was already hard at work migrating our platform onto a more secure/robust foundation. This work, now completed, will be instrumental in preventing such disruptions going forward.

This was only the first step to combat such threats and improve service quality globally, and we thank those who were impacted by the accelerated migration for their understanding and assistance in completing the necessary changes to make this first step possible.

On that note, to further sustainability of our project, I'm happy to announce that Github Sponsors is now available for both single and recurring donations! While WikiTide will remain ad-free and no-cost to all, your donations make possible the continued improvements to our infrastructure needed to deliver the rock-solid reliability that every user should receive.

Sponsor Link:

Again, thank you all for being an early part of the WikiForge and WikiTide communities, and here's to the months and years still to come.

Cannot access the database

I was trying to access my Wiki. Always returning this message:

Cannot access the database: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo for db11 failed: Name or service not known (db11)

Accident Wikis: unrealneowikitide

In addition, I found that your portal domain name changed from .com, is it because of this reason that the Wiki cannot be accessed, or other reasons?

Because of this accident, several of my partners and I were unable to access or even edit the wiki.

Since our Wiki is not in the dormancy policy exemption queue, we are more concerned that this error will cause the wiki to be automatically cleaned.

--Rosalina129 (talk) 18:14, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi there, it looks like you were one of the folks impacted by our emergency transition in DNS providers. Unfortunately this has required all users employing Custom domains to update settings to restore access.
If you have access to make these changes, @Agent Isai will be able to provide the new nameservers needed to resolve the issue.

Can't edit Site Notices as bureaucrat

Hey guys, I don't have edits rights to edit the site notice on my wiki, despite being a bureaucrat :)

Let me know if I've done something stupid or am missing something... Regards, Jeb_CC.

Reviewing your wiki's permission structure and your personal user rights, you should have all the access you need. As a hunch, can you confirm that you are showing as logged in at the top right on the MediaWiki:Sitenotice page? If so and if you still don't have edit rights, please try logging out and back in... --NotAracham (talk) 07:35, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Yep, sorry. I'm a dumbass indeed. :D I just remembered I removed edit rights for users temporarily as the wiki wasn't ready yet, thinking that admins and above had their own edit rights by default still but TIL they do not! Lmao Sorry for wasting your time. Jeb CC (talk) 17:41, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Ah yep, that'd do it, if no role had edit rights then no edits can happen, not just sitenotices. :)

Is it possible to switch a wiki's status from private to public after it has been created? I have just submitted a wiki and I would like to open it only after an acceptable amount of content has been added. Signed by one Angry Enjoyer. (talk) 13:11, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Yes,this can be done via the checkbox on Special:ManageWiki/core by any local wiki admin. --NotAracham (talk) 20:27, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

InvalidArgumentException Error

When I try to enter a page from any WikiTide wiki, I receive a InvalidArgumentException error sometimes. What is going on and why do I receive this error? NotCircle (talk) 13:51, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

TemplateWizard extension not working on infoboxes?

When creating or importing an infobox template and attempting to edit it in templatewizard, the parameters don't show up! And I don't think it's a problem with templatedata as the one I imported had no templatedata, it just had the parameters, though I was importing from a Fandom wiki. I'll get more specific if asked but I do wonder if this is an issue that others experience. Funfacterdroid (talk) 01:11, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Why can't I access my wiki?

Hey! I just requested a wiki and it seems to be approved, however when I open through the registered link, it seems to be not working. Am I doing something wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ReADs (talkcontribs)

We're looking into this now and will update you when the issue is resolved. --NotAracham (talk) 17:41, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
